Welcome to Your First Massage: What to Expect & How to Prepare
At Bone Hugs & Harmony, we want your first massage experience to be comfortable, relaxing, and empowering. Our top priority is providing a safe, professional, and supportive environment where you feel respected, informed, and at ease. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know before your session!
What to Expect as a First-Time Client
Consultation & Communication
Before your massage begins, we’ll have a brief consultation to discuss:
✔️ Your health history
✔️ Areas of tension or discomfort
✔️ Pressure preferences
✔️ Any concerns or areas you’d like to avoid
Open communication is encouraged! This session is for you, and we want to tailor it to your needs.
Privacy & Undressing
You will have complete privacy to undress to your comfort level. While most clients choose to be fully nude for the full therapeutic benefit of their session, you are welcome to leave on undergarments if you prefer. Your comfort and modesty are always respected.
As Licensed Massage Therapists, we highly recommend full nudity for optimal bodywork. This allows for seamless transitions, uninterrupted muscle access, and enhanced therapeutic effectiveness. However, your comfort comes first—your session is about what makes you feel at ease.
You will always be professionally draped, meaning only the area being worked on will be uncovered at any time. Draping ensures your modesty, safety, and security throughout the entire session.
Above all, professionalism and integrity guide every session, fostering a therapeutic relationship built on trust, respect, and your overall well-being.
Laying on the Massage Table
Once undressed, you’ll lay face-down with your head in the face cradle or face-up under the sheet—whichever position we start with. Make sure your body is aligned with the table for comfort. Your arms should be under the sheet in a natural, relaxed position.
I will knock before re-entering to ensure you're ready. If you need any adjustments for comfort, just let me know!
The Massage Process
Your session will begin with gentle pressure to introduce touch and help your body relax before moving into deeper techniques, depending on your preferences.
✔️ I will check in with you about pressure levels and comfort throughout the session.
✔️ You are encouraged to communicate if anything feels too intense or if you’d like a specific focus area.
✔️ If you prefer quiet relaxation, that’s perfectly fine. If you like to chat, that’s okay too!
Your Role During the Session
You don’t need to do anything except relax and breathe. If at any point you feel discomfort or would like an adjustment, just speak up. This is your time to unwind and receive care.
After the Massage
Once the session concludes, I will leave the room to allow you to redress in privacy. Take your time getting up, as massage can lower blood pressure slightly and sometimes cause lightheadedness. You might feel deeply relaxed, energized, or even a little emotional—that’s all normal!
Tips for a Smooth Experience
✔️ Hydrate Before & After – Drinking water supports circulation and recovery.
✔️ Arrive Clean & Ready – A quick shower beforehand is appreciated.
✔️ Communicate Preferences – Let me know about pressure, sensitive areas, or if you need a tissue.
✔️ Breathe & Relax – Deep breathing helps your body fully absorb the benefits of the massage.
✔️ No Need to Apologize! – Stomach noises, falling asleep, emotional releases, giggles—it’s all normal and welcome here.
